British Cadet and Junior National Championships 2003

As I’m sure you are all aware the BFA were impressed enough with the running of the 2003 Norfolk
Open and the Sportspark as a venue, to hold the 2003 British Cadet and Junior Championships here,
with the NFC supporting the event. Naturally this is a major coup both for the Club, and indeed for
this region, as this is of course a major National event to decide the ultimate under 17 and under
20 G.B. National Champion in each weapon. Over 250 fencers attended each day, with all three halls
taken up, and the finals being held in the squash courts.

The local Press, Radio and Anglia TV all gave some coverage of the event.

The BFA plan to hold this event at the Sportspark again next year, and are considering holding other
‘A’ grade events here in the future. This of course would not be feasible without the continued
assistance of NFC Club members, and we would like to thank all those who gave their time to assist
with the smooth running of the event, as well as thank the staff of the Sportspark for their excellent
help and support.

Fraser Off to Australia

Fraser is heading off to Australia for a month. Whilst there, as an ‘A’ grade Epeeist in the UK’s top
100 seeding, he will be taking part in the Australian National Fencing Competition being held in Perth
on
1st December. I’ll report the details on his return.

Lost and Found

Recently a Foil was left behind on a Club night. If you believe it is yours, please see Fraser on his
return in December. If Uma Thurman turns up to claim it, it’s hers, no argument!
Mind you, seeing the trailers to ‘Kill Bill’, I suspect Sabre is more her style.

Fencing in Hamburg…?

Fraser is looking in to a trip by NFC members to fence in Hamburg next March/April.
It must be emphasized that he would like to gauge interest and try to get the trip ‘off the ground’,
but will not be organising the trip as such or getting involved financially. It will be down
to individual members to sort out their flights etc, although it is likely fencers could be
put up in other fencers houses in Hamburg. Fraser would like to act more as a focal point in
getting those interested together. I for one am interested, even if it does mean fencing Epee’!
Please contact Fraser on his return from Australia.

NFC Patches

Come on, they look good, are reasonably priced, and you know you want one! See Tony for
yours… Tony, Mick and Tom venture North (well, across and up a bit) Tony, Mick and Tom
travelled to the Leicester Open to take part in the Epee’ event,, with Tony also participating
in the tough Essex Open a few weeks prior to this. Perhaps he over did it a bit….. although
the possible sponsorship deal with Stannah should more than make up for any aches and pains!

Seriously though, all three made a great showing for Norfolk, especially Tony, who was seeded 68th out
of 150 at Leicester, including a great win over the 25th seeded Epeeist in the UK!
He has now decided to enter the Hereford and Worcester Open in December and aims to end up seeded
in the UK’s top 200.
