A very good turnout of 19 epeeists were divided into two poules for the contest. Each bout was for the challenging first to three hits. The top four fencers from each poule then faced a direct elimination contest to decide on the top eight epeeists. ( Due to his recent dominance of these monthly contests, Martin Walters was given a handicap of -1 for each of his fights. This certainly resulted in his wings being severely clipped!).
