Luke Hewerdine
Chair

Luke started fencing at the age of 16 with the North Kesteven Fencing Club in Lincolnshire, back in 2013. He moved to Norfolk in 2015 to study history at UEA and joined UEA Fencing. He served the club as vice-president for two years and as president in his final year of university. Luke jumped at opportunities to develop skills in refereeing and coach. Luke is now a level 2 referee in foil, epee and sabre. He is also part of our coaching team and holds a level 3 sabre coaching qualification through the British Academy of Fencing.

Rach Simons
Treasurer & Beginners' Representative Coach

Rach started fencing in January 2016 at UEA. Rach has now stepped up to the role of treasurer and begun her coaching journey as our beginners' coach. Her aims are to cultivate a healthy competitive spirit among our members, in particular the sabreurs. She is looking to encourage increased attendance at events, hopefully better performance, but first and foremost she wants to make sure everyone has a jolly good time!

Sarah Tickner
Secretary

Sarah started fencing aged 15, when she first joined Norfolk Fencing Club. She can normally be found with a sabre at hand on a club night, although she is known to have fenced Epee and Foil on occasion.

Adam Hickford
Epee Captain & Lead Welfare Officer
Clare Hill
Club Welfare Officer

Clare started fencing in 2019 after completing the 6 week beginners course. She was inspired to start fencing on retirement by the photo of Connie Adam displayed at UEA, as part of the #ThisGirlCan campaign. She works with Adam to ensure the club continues to be a safe space for all our members.

After suffering a leg injury, he received lessons from a seated position. He has experience of wheelchair fencing, sparring with a former Paralympian. Rob is keen to get anyone involved with para-fencing or adaptive lessons with a coach.

Peter Gallop
Non-portfolio

Peter joined the club in 1982. Since that time he has filled a number of roles; initially as club secretary, a British Fencing Association club leader/coach, treasurer, foil captain, and chairman. He has also supported and represented the club in the Norfolk County Fencing Union. He undertook a support role for previous club secretaries as minute secretary, combined with the role of club archivist. He is also a club armourer assisting in maintaining the club equipment. Since joining the club he has played an active part in the organisation of the Norfolk Open.

Peter has taken every opportunity to engage with the local media to promote the club and the sport generally, particularly emphasising the achievements of club fencers.

During this time he undertook considerable research and completed a history of the club between 1939 - 2019 and followed up with a history of swords and swordsmen and women of Norwich and Norfolk over the centuries, detailing the apparent local media interest in duelling.

He has recently relinquished these roles but continues to serve on the committee and offer support to the club's officers.
