Thank you to everyone who attended the 2018 Norfolk Open.

The weekend ran smoothly and the competition was definitely a success (or we think so any way!). In all 6 weapons the number of entrants exceeded last year and entry lists were full of both familiar names and lots of new ones. The continued use of email entries and online payment (introduced last year) was successful in making entering easy (this is definitely something we will continue!)  This year, with our swanky refurbished website, we were able to publish, and update regularly, the entry list. We believe this helped increase entries and is something we will continue in future years.

On Saturday over 50 foilists descended on the UEA to compete. Chiara McDermott was again victorious in the womens event however the men had another new winner. The final came done to two Chris’, it was a close battle however it was Chris Mollard who received the winners medal. Chris was cheered on piste side by his wife and daughter, he was unable to compete last year because he had just became a father! See below for full results.

The trend for good sabre entry numbers continued  which is extremely pleasing for this year and in the future. In the womens competition last years winner Michele Narey was beaten to first place by Lucy Wright. For the men there was a new winner, Christian Thorley. Christian is originally from Norfolk and fences under another local Norwich club, Affondo. See below for full results.

Last year saw a dip in the number of epee entries, especially mens however this year numbers soared! Two entrants from New Zealand (in the UK for U20 Commonwealth games) dominant the mens competition, finally facing off for the Gold medal, with Isaac Rusholme Cobb being victorious. Last years womens champion  Julie Henson continued her run of Norfolk Open wins, beating a new opponent Bethania Soriano in the final. See below for full results.
