Norfolk Fencing Club’s Sophia Pickering has returned from competing in Copenhagen at the European Fencing Confederation’ Cadet Circuit Copenhagen event for Epee. on 9th to 10th December 2023.

Sophia was competing in both the individual and team competition. In the individual competition on the first day, she won 4 of her poules matches and lost 2 which resulted in a seeding of 64th. This gave Sophia a bye in to the last 128. She then fenced the 65th seeded fencer and won her match. She then took on the number 1 seed in the competition and lost, resulting in Sophia coming 49th in the individual competition out of 199 competitors. Well done Sophia for such an excellent result.

On her second day in Copenhagen, Sophia competed in the team competition with Olivia Eadie, Reya Farlam and Emma Mitzova to represent Great Britain. The team had a close fight against Italy, but lost to the eventual winners of the competition. Unfortunately, during a excitingly contended point, Sophia had a graceful fall that resulted in an ankle injury which prevented her from fencing in her last two matches. The team ended in 10th position out of 39 teams from across europe.
