There were 16 entries for the Women’s Epee event. Once again the winner was Norfolk Fencing Club’s Julie Henson. Much to the admiration of her fellow competitors, she has won this trophy so many times in the past few years that she is seemingly invincible. In second place was was Norfolk Fencing Club’s Sophia Pickering who is to be  fully congratulated on such an excellent result amongst fencers who are older and more experienced than her. A bright future in fencing awaits her. Mention must also be made of Clare Hill who overcame stressful electric problems with her weapons,  and proceeded to show her considerable potential by dominating her opponents in the two preliminary rounds. She eventually came a creditable 9th in the competition.

There were 41 entries for the Men’s Epee. Dariusz Bobusia who has recently made a very welcome return to the Club came 10th, and was unlucky not to end up higher in the order. Robert Froud who is deservedly making a real name for himself on the local circuit came 18th. His recent rate of progress promises a bright future. Nick Burton will, no doubt be disappointed with his 37th place, as his beat attacks to wrist usually make him a formidable fencer. Danny Sharpe came 37th, and Caleb Matthews in 38th position was awarded the sash for being the best placed cadet fencer in the competition.

Success for our epeeists at the Norfolk Open 2023
